Can You See Past Your Radar Screen?

Can You See Past Your Radar Screen?

I was working with some fellow entrepreneurs when the question was asked, can you see past your radar screen? It could be an odd question, but a very accurate one. As an entrepreneur, we must have faith past what we can see or envision to be successful. Think about driving your car down a dark highway. You can only see about 200 feet ahead where your headlights shine, but we have faith the road continues past those 200 feet, correct?

Faith and vision are a necessity for success. The most successful people throughout history had vision and faith in their dreams. A dream so large that no obstacle could stop them. They saw their obstacles as learning opportunities, not failures to derail their vision. It is really called depth of vision.

Take the story of Sam Walton, the mastermind behind Walmart. After opening his first store in Arkansas in 1962, he had a dream of having the largest retail store chain in the world. He saw things no one else saw in his time. People thought his dream was crazy it was so farfetched. Time Magazine calls him the first information aged CEO by using computer systems to track inventory and sales in the late 1960’s. He used his depth of vision to create the world’s largest chain of retail stores now boasting over 4,200 stores in the US and another 3,600 plus stores in 14 countries and realizing his dreams even past his life. This all happened to a man that most people said it was impossible. People told him it couldn’t be done. I guess 50 years later, we now know who was right. Sam Walton had faith about what is off of his radar screen. Too many people only see what is on their radar screen and miss their own opportunities.

Can you see past your radar screen? Is your dream so big it scares you? If not, why not? If not you then who? If not now, when? Only you can decide your destiny, so stop looking at your radar screen and have faith in your vision.

It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision”—Helen Keller
