Just like the 1987 George Michaels’ song stated I gotta have faith, faith, faith. In order to have any success in business and in life, we all have to have faith. I am not speaking of religious faith, but certainly faith in a higher power helps, but faith in ourselves. Self-belief is crucial to our success. We are our own creators, God made us that way in His own image. We have the ability to create our own lives, not our circumstances. Problem is we all hear about having faith, but very few teach us how to create faith.
I have been rereading Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” and the second lesson is about faith. It is only with our positive thoughts and faith can we truly achieve our dreams. Everything we see, touch, hear and smell all started as a single thought by an individual. The chair in which you sit, the building in which you work, the computer you are reading this article on were all just an idea at one time.
Everything starts in our thoughts. Andrew Carnegie, the richest man in the world at the time, taught Napoleon Hill this philosophy. It really doesn’t matter how we do things as much as it is having positive thoughts and faith about what we are doing. You really have to stay positive all day every day, which is not easy. Psychologists have released studies that the average person is subjected to negative information 87% of the time which means our positive thoughts have to come from 13% of our information. Therefore, the average person is probably pretty negative. Politics are certainly negative especially at election time. The news is negative with wars, shootings, bad economies, foreclosures and bankruptcies. It is downright depressing. One must really focus on reading positive books, listening to positive recordings, listening to inspirational music and associating with positive people. You cannot allow negativity to control your thoughts.
The key ingredients to success are positive thoughts, faith through auto-suggestion, and planned actions. We must resist the temptations of wallowing in our self-pity and constantly listening to people complain, the negative news and politics in order to become the person we were meant to be. Not the person that is so indifferent to their own thoughts that they float through life dictated by their circumstances. God gave you the gift of creation, now go create the life you dreamed for yourself.
“If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought.”—Peace Pilgrim
