Why Should We Be Thankful?

Why Should We Be Thankful?

This week being Thanksgiving week, it becomes a time to reflect. When sitting down to our turkey feast with family and friends, it is an easier time to be thankful. We are thankful for those in front of us, the nice food spread, the connections we have made, or maybe our health. Thanksgiving is that day that makes it easy to be thankful, when for a lot of us, it is not so easy to be thankful. Most folks focus on external sources to find happiness and gratefulness. By watching the news, we see the terrible actions going on in the world with wars, terrorism, disease, greed, starvation, etc. Some just feel guilty to see such abhorrent situations and conditions to the point of not being thankful for their own favorable conditions. Why should we be thankful daily?

Being thankful and grateful is so very important beyond a religious aspect or repaying the system. Being thankful is a state of mind. The Law of Attraction is as real as the Law of Gravity. You do not have to believe in either one, but if you step off of a building, the Law of Gravity will work. The same is true about the Law of Attraction. Our thoughts attract every event into our lives. If you are a negative person, you will have more than your fair share of negative events in your life. Therefore, if you are a positive person, you will attract more than your fair share of positive events in your life.

We all know that person that always has the worst things happen to them. Some things are so bad and so bizarre, it is almost laughable to see so much chaos can happen to one person. The same is true with the positive person. We all know folks that could fall into a pile of excrement and come out smelling like a bouquet of flowers. Each person attracts these situations.

I find that being thankful at the end of each day brings me more things to be thankful for in my daily life. Even if I just had a horrible day, I can always find something that happened to be grateful for in my horrible day. It is training your mind to forget the negative and focus on the positive. By doing this exercise daily, you will attract more positive events into your life than negative ones. I find it to be the hardest easy thing that I do, but it is so important. Your mind controls all.

So, don’t just be thankful this Thursday on Thanksgiving, change your thoughts and habits to be thankful every day from now on. Happy Thanksgiving!

“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings”.—William Arthur Ward

  • Great post Tim Wilhoit Gratitude is essential !

  • I am thankful everyday.

  • I’m thankful to your thoroughness in approaching matters.

  • When bad things happen to me, my first reaction is not to be joyful. I don’t feel like giving thanks when I’m hurt by a good friend, or when I fight with my spouse or have a bad day. I feel like saying, “If God really loved me, this wouldn’t be happening!”

But then I look at all the ways God has blessed me. God gives me great, amazing gifts all the time, and I hardly ever remember to say, “Thank you.” If I paid more attention to praising God and less attention to my problems, I’d be a lot more joyful person.

  • Beautifully stated Lynn, thank you for sharing that thought with us!

  • Tim we’re thankful for all that you contribute to our knowledge!

  • I am “thankful” for being part Insurance Professionals and hope to learn more from “Thanksgiving” members.
