What Is Your New Year’s Resolution?

What Is Your New Year’s Resolution?

Happy New Year! What is your New Year’s Resolution? Isn’t that what we are supposed to do? It is the start of a new year, what are you going to change? The most common is to lose weight. There are many different methods of losing weight. We can eat better by changing our diet, join a gym to start exercising, start taking supplements for a “shortcut” or just giving up our vices, smoking, drinking, etc. Everywhere you look people are talking about their New Year’s Resolution? But how long do people actually commit to their New Year’s Resolution? Let’s take a quick look.

According to a survey by Franklin Covey, 40% of people who set their New Year’s Resolution break it before the end of January, so not even 30 days. An astounding 33% stated they were never committed to keeping the goal in the first place. I guess they made it at the New Year’s Eve party while enjoying adult beverages. I would bet it is even higher, because most people won’t admit that. Goals and resolutions really are important in our lives directions. Yet the majority of Americans just sail around like a ship without a rudder. Complaining about how bad their life has become, as if they have absolutely no control, which is very sad. If we don’t control our lives, who does?

Let’s look at a few unconventional goals to set with our New Year’s Resolution this year. Since the majority of people do not commit past 30 days, why not set a resolution that is one and done and does not have to be repeated past 30 days? A few of those things on our “to do list” that we just never seem to get around to because we are so busy. We all have 24 hours in a day. The reason we don’t have time to do certain things is because it is not a priority. It is not a priority until we write it down with a time line to finish. Ideally within the next 30 days.

This year let’s make our New Year’s Resolution about our loved ones. Those people dependent on our income. Those who suffer if this is our last year on earth. Make it a priority to purchase enough life insurance by reviewing your plan with your agent. There is no such thing as too much life insurance. I have never seen a widow turn down a beneficiary check. Making sure that your last will and testament is up to date. Be sure your finances are in order. Write down your final requests, so if something does happen, your loved ones will have direction. These important things take just a little time, but it gives your family relief so they can take the time needed to grieve. If you set the priority within January, you will complete this task before most people quit their New Year’s Resolution and you will be done.

Have a Happy New Year with Peace of Mind this year!

“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.”—Benjamin Franklin
