I Just Learned How Ignorant I Am About SEO Technology

I Just Learned How Ignorant I Am About SEO Technology

As a national life insurance broker for the past 20 years, I have had to learn this new world of technology. I have attended classes, webinars, and “lunch & learns” to gain the skills necessary to bring my insurance agency into the 21st century. I designed and help build a website, shot YouTube videos for marketing, learned all of the “ins & outs” of the main social media, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. I have had great success so far. But until I met two special individuals, Robert Coles and Maria Colomy of Coles and Colomy Creative, I had no idea how ignorant I was about SEO technology. Allow me to explain.

I like to think of it in terms of going on a week-long trip.  When I go to Nashville International Airport here in Nashville, TN, I don’t have a fear of flying nor do I have a fear of crashing, I have a fear of coming home and forgetting where I parked my car in long term parking. Imagine getting on the bus to be dropped off at your car and have no idea where you parked. I have actually witnessed a lady riding the bus, for who knows how long, crying trying to find her car in the sea of thousands of cars. You may have an awesome car. Perhaps it is the nicest car in the entire lot. What good is it if you can’t find it? The same is true with your website. You may have a beautiful website that you are very proud of, but if your prospects can’t find it, what good is it?

In just the past 6 weeks that I started working with Coles and Colomy, my site is up over 30%! I am even getting a better conversion rate on leads. We have begun two new projects that I believe will increase our lead base several fold. Even though I knew how to do the social media aspect of my website, I had no idea about anything Search Engine Optimization, SEO related. I am excited and humbled by their knowledge and their ability to teach me things I thought I knew but how to be more efficient and effective with my postings and blogs. Robby showed me places to post my blogs that I never knew existed. I have a blog I posted 3 weeks ago that has over 50 comments and over 200 shares and still counting! When I launched my website in February 2012, I had a goal to hit 1,000 unique visits per month. Thanks to Coles and Colomy, yesterday my 30 day Google Analytics showed 1,003 unique visits! I am so excited about Robby Coles and Maria Colomy’s skills and abilities to teach, that I highly recommend them to any independent insurance agent, commission salesperson, realtor or small business owner in the greater Nashville, TN area. Their reasonable monthly fees are paying for themselves in the first month. Stop trying to do everything for yourself and give Coles and Colomy a try. Or if you are not satisfied with your current SEO company, you will have nothing to lose making the switch and everything to gain. Even if you would like to learn more about social media, no matter where you are in the U.S. they offer very affordable one hour webinars.

Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects”—Will Rogers

  • You are way ahead of me Tim–lately I have been reading a lot about SEO–and still need to do much more with my website to get hits. Some of what I have read have some useful info–but most are inadequate. I am in North Eastern PA–the Poconos. I dont know the monthly fees you are paying–but I need something that is reasonable and effective i.e a logical system with a timeline that is attainable

  • Selvyn, Give them a call they can give you a quote over the phone. I will message you Robert’s contact info. Good luck!

  • The pleasure of working with you is mine!

  • I’m ecstatic to learn that you are learning about SEO and how it can help you and your website online. Prospects being able to find you online is huge especially in your industry. The benefits of SEO especially when you weigh that over time are huge. When you look at yourself and your website in 12 months as long as this company continues to shine, and they are helpful in the creative process with content and their SEO efforts you will be amazed where this takes you.

  • Patrick, thank you for the encouragement! It is a great moment when you first learn you don’t know what you don’t know.

  • That’s why in marketing and technology, it’s critical to be an avid reader of trends and news in your profession to know what to prioritize in your plans. Then, hire the niche experts (like Location3 Media) to help you focus on what’s possible within your current budgets and site structure, as well as future plans. Your niche vendors are your planning and implementation partners for specialty areas like SEO/web design; they do it for many clients and bring best practices to you. For example, a small business’s website platform was managed by a 3rd party vendor, so it was not feasible to restructure all the content and pages for SEO until it was brought in-house for real-time management, more cost-effectively and with greater speed and quality in implementation.

  • Thanks, Patrick. I have no idea how it worked out, but that was the plan! (Plan your work, work your plan.) Additionally, it’s important to note that our franchise marketing committee partners were strong advocates for that phased approach to improving the web presence. We had consensus that it was far more important to the brand to get the online presence as current and manageable as possible, so we could really build the online marketing engine, which simply wasn’t possible with an off-site platform integrated with many internal backend systems and processes. First things first
