Is Your Why Big Enough To Succeed?

Is Your Why Big Enough To Succeed?

So, why is the why so important in your business? I’ll tell you why. It’s the why that becomes your passion. Without passion, your business will not succeed over a long period of time. Let’s face it, when we start our business or insurance agency, we are excited. It is the thrill of new things and possibilities to come.  We are running on adrenaline and passion more than logic and capital in most cases. But what happens as time goes by? The enthusiasm begins to wane and reality sets in. This business is much harder than we thought. Ever say, “Wow, that went totally different in my head than in reality”? I surely have more than once!

It is imperative that we as business owners define the why. Why am I doing this? What is the real reason that gets me up, excited and passionate about working my business.  Maybe it’s helping people by protecting them with great insurance products. Maybe it’s being able to take care of yourself and your family. Maybe it is the promise of financial freedom by being self employed. Maybe it’s building a team of professionals to succeed beyond their wildest dreams. You have to keep the why in front of you every day.

Here is the reason why why is important. You will have rough days, weeks and sometimes months and years. You will want to give up. But if you have a strong enough why, you will be able to persevere through those tough times. In my experience of training well over 1,000 agents in my 20 year insurance career, the people the agents are closest to are sometimes their biggest enemies to their insurance business. They tell them to “give up, quit, told you it wouldn’t work.” See a lot of people, even the ones that love us, deep down don’t want us to succeed, because they don’t have the inner drive that it takes to succeed. They are full of self doubt. If you succeed it can make them feel vulnerable that you are able to do what they only dream of or wish they could do. You need to surround yourself with like minded successful people or agents to help you get through the tough times. I’m not saying to forget your lifelong friends and family just insulate yourself from the negative. The why helps you stay positive to reach that ultimate goal.

So, sit down and define WHY do I do my business or sell insurance every day. Then go live it and nothing can stop you from your destiny of success! What is your why?

The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”– Frank Loyd Wright
